Almost everyone starts the same way. The idea is clear, the enthusiasm is there, and then come the questions nobody can quite answer. Do I need to register a company or can I just trade? What licence does this actually require? My cousin wants to come in with me, so how does that work?
Most people guess, or ask around, and get going. Sometimes that is fine. Sometimes it means unwinding something eighteen months later at ten times the cost of getting it right at the start.
Throughout the entire month of October, we are setting aside time each week for anyone starting a business in Tonga to sit down with us at no cost.
Who it is for
Anyone at the beginning. You might have registered nothing yet and only have an idea. You might have started trading already and want to know whether you have missed something. You might be coming home from overseas with a plan. All of it counts.
What we can go through with you
Whether to register a company or trade in your own name, and what changes if you do. What licences or approvals your particular activity needs before you can start. What to check in a lease before you sign for premises. How to set things up when you are going into business with family or friends, so that everyone knows who owns what and what happens if someone wants out. What comes with taking on your first employee. And, if someone overseas is investing or coming in as a partner, what that adds to the picture.
Bring anything you already have. A draft agreement, a lease, a licence application, a business plan, notes on the back of an envelope.
What to expect
We will tell you what your setup needs, in what order, and which parts you can do yourself. Plenty of it you can. Where something does need a lawyer, we will say so and explain what it would involve, and you can decide in your own time. There is no expectation that you come back.
Booking
Places are limited to 8 each week.
To book, send us an email at tmaka@semperfidelis.legal to confirm your appointment.
